In the dying moments, pure elation broke out for Chelsea and interim manager Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández bundled in a last-gasp equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola ranting in frustration and handed the stand-in Chelsea manager a unforgettable moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane was the Premier League's most pronounced managerial mismatch in class, making the memory of Fernández's pivotal intervention one to warm the 40-year-old for years to come.

A Stark Contrast in Pedigree

On the home bench stood the most decorated manager of his time, a man with an unparalleled CV for elite clubs Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, stood a one-time trainer at lower-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and arrived to make his first-team debut after being temporarily promoted from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a slew of absences, most notably Chelsea's key midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task began as a mission that seemed nearly insurmountable.
